Summary
This report is an overview and comparison of data sources (the DHS Surveys of 1996 and 2006, national census of 2000) used to estimate under-five mortality numbers. This report compares the data collection methods of indirect estimates from summary birth histories (censuses) to direct estimates from complete birth histories (DHS), presenting the advantages and shortcomings of both. Annex material includes the complete birth history module from the 2006 DHS and the summary birth history module from MICS.
