Summary

The Mexican Health and Aging Study 2003 (MHAS-2003) returned to the population first interviewed in 2001. Questionnaires were modeled after the baseline instruments, collecting information on health status, health care use, financial security, migration, and demographic and socioeconomic characterstics of Mexicans over the age of 50.

In this follow-up survey, all participants interviewed in the first study were contacted for a second survey, as well as their current spouse or partner. In cases where a participant had died, a next of kin or informed respondent was interviewed. This survey contacted 9,755 households, successfully interviewing 9,191 households and 14,277 individuals.

Future follow up surveys to the MHAS have also been planned for 2012 and 2015.
