The Ghana Demographic and Health Survey 2008 is part of phase 5 of the Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) series. For the 2008 Ghana DHS, 4,916 women ages 15-49 and 4,568 men ages 15-59 were successfully interviewed from 11,778 households.

A follow up survey to the 2008 Ghana DHS called the Ghana Child Verbal Autopsy Study 2008 was conducted with the objective of gathering cause of death information for children under five through interviews with a sub-sample of households that had reported a child death during the 2008 Ghana DHS.

The 2008 Ghana Child VA Study data are included with the 2008 Ghana DHS microdata file release.

Phase 1 of the survey was primarily used to list and identify households where the death of a female household member age 12-49 had occurred within five years prior to the survey. In phase 2 of the survey, 10,370 women age 15-49 were successfully interviewed from 10,858 households. Verbal autopsy questionnaires were completed for 4,203 of the deceased women identified in phase 1 of the survey.

The 1999 Samoa Demographic and Health survey was conducted as a follow up to the 1993 Vital Statistics Sample Survey. The purpose of this survey was to gather data in order to produce estimates in order to evaluate and determine programs. This survey also sought to investigate family planning practices and reproductive health.

The data were collected through in-home interviews of every member of each household in the sample. The survey took place within all districts and villages in Samoa. The interview contained questions about household demographics, socioeconomics, and reproductive practices of persons aged 15-49 years.

The sample size was 28,638 individuals. Of these, 14,980 were males and 13,748 were females.
