The Expanded Program on Immunisation (EPI) started in Ethiopia in 1980 with the intention of increasing the immunization coverage by 10% annually and reach 100% coverage in 1990. The long-term goal of the Ministry of Health EPI is to achieve 90% DPT coverage in all regions. The six vaccine preventable diseases included in the EPI program in Ethiopia are measles, diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, polio and tuberculosis. Children between 12-23 months and women having infants aged from 0-11 months are the target population for the survey of child and TT immunization respectively.
