This report covers the international use of illicit drugs--opiates, cocaine, cannabis, and amphetamines/stimulants. It follows trends in the world drug markets including the history of production, trafficking and consumption worldwide. Historical information from the early 20th century to the present regarding international laws regulating illicit drugs is also included. Special attention is focused on countries of production by drug--opiates of Afghanistan, Laos and Myanmar and coca in Bolivia, Colombia and Peru. Street prices, purity level, consumption patterns, and treatment demand for drug use disorders are also addressed.
