Summary

The atlas contains data on birth defects prevalence from 52 registries participating in the ICBDMS (International Clearinghouse of Birth Defects Monitoring Systems) and EUROCAT (European Surveillance of Congenital Anomalies) on five continents, for a total of 16.9 million births. For each anomaly there is a table for live and still births, a table for terminated pregnancies, a bar graph, and three maps: the Americas, Europe, and Africa, Asia, Australia/Oceania and the Middle East.

Coverage is diverse, including national, subnational (e.g., counties or territories), and city (e.g., Barcelona, Dublin) areas. Individual registry descriptions are included. See also the individual registry records linked through the World Atlas of Birth Defects record series for more granular information on coverage and dates.
