Summary

Developed and conducted by the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) to provide regular data on a range of social and economic issues relevant to the region, the Continous Household Survey (CHS) has been running since 1983. It is based on a random sample of 4,500 domestic addresses, which are sorted by district council and ward for effective geographic stratification. Data is collected through face-to-face interviews, with interviews spread over a 12-month period. For 2010-2011, main topics covered in the survey include basic demographic characteristics; education; adult health; employment, income and benefits; tourism; culture, arts and leisure activities; religion; migration; and mobile phone and internet access.
