Summary

Censuses provide population numbers, household or family size and composition, and information on sex and age distribution. They often include other demographic, economic and health-related topics as well. The 1991 United Kingdom de facto and de jure census collected data through self-enumeration on the subjects of housing, household demographics, and employment. The census day was April 21, 1991. Two percent of the population of Great Britain was missed entirely and records were imputed for an additional 1.6% of the population. A 2% sample of dwellings from the census (541,894 individuals) is available through IPUMS International at the University of Minnesota. The sample includes England, Scotland and Wales and excludes Northern Ireland. Dwellings and vacant units are not identified in the sample. Refer to the IPUMS website for guidelines on citing database versions.
