Summary

The 2000-2001 ILFS was a follow up to a similar 1990-1991 survey; however, for the first time information was collected on child labor. Topics covered by the survey include household characteristics such as literacy, education, training, child labor, employment and occupations.

A total of 11,660 households were enumerated, and of those, 8,000 were rural and 3,660 were urban. The survey covered individuals ages 5 and older in private households. Institutionalized populations and households of diplomats were excluded from the survey. Data was collected in mainland Tanzania only. A total of three questionnaires were used, one for the household, one for the general labor force, and one for children ages 5-17.
