Summary 

The purpose of this study was to assess the level of exposure to physical, psychological, and sexual violence and its impact on health in the lives of men and women ages 18 through 74 years.

Data were collected through self-completed, separate questionnaires for men and women. The questionnaires were made available online and also sent to and returned by participants through the mail. The questionnaires asked about demographic characteristics and exposure to violence during different ages. The participants were asked about experiences with violence before the age of 15 years, between the ages of 15 and 17 years, and after age 18. The survey also collected information on exposure to violence in the last 12 months. Self-reported height and weight were also collected. The sample size for the this survey was 4,653 men and 5,681 women.
