Summary

The 2000 Puerto Rico Population and Housing Census was conducted in conjunction with the United States Decennial Census, with technical assistance and training in data collection provided by the Puerto Rico Planning Board. Beginning with the 2000 census, the same long-form questionaire was used in the enumeration of both the states and in Puerto Rico. The census was de jure and data were collected through face-to-face interviews and self enumeration on subjects of housing, household demographics, education, migration, employment, and income. The questionnaire was completed by approximately one-sixth of the population. The population of Puerto Rico on April 1, 2000 was 3,808,610.
