Summary

Censuses provide population numbers, household or family size and composition, and information on sex and age distribution. They often include other demographic, economic and health-related topics as well. The American Community Survey program (ACS) supplements the 10 year cycle of census data collection by annually surveying a representative sample of the country’s population. The resulting data provides timely, demographic information at the community level. As part of the ACS, the Puerto Rico Community Survey was conducted from 2005-2009. For the 2005 survey approximately 1% of households in the population completed a questionnaire. Data was collected through face-to-face interviews and self-enumeration on subjects of housing, household demographics, education, migration, employment, and income.  The 1% differentially weighted sample of households (35,416 individuals) is available through IPUMS International at the University of Minnesota. Dwellings are not identified in the sample.
