Summary

Censuses provide population numbers, household or family size and composition, and information on sex and age distribution. They often include other demographic, economic, and health-related topics as well. The Namibia Population and Housing Census of 2011 information has been used in the formulating of policy and monitoring of national development programmes. It has also been used in updating the national sampling frame used to select samples for other household-based surveys, such as labor force, demographic and health, household income, and expenditure surveys. Efforts made to ensure quality of the data included delimitation of the country into small enumeration areas to ensure comprehensive coverage, the editing of census questionaires at the field level, and developing capacity in data processing with the assistance of the international community. The total population enumerated during the 2011 census was 2,113,077.
