The WHO Multi-country Survey Study (MCSS) was carried out in 61 countries from 2000 to 2001. The survey modes, which varied from country to country, included in-person individual interviews, telephone surveys, and mail surveys.

In Mexico, a sample size of 4,817 households was chosen for the household survey. The response rate was 96%.
