The Malawi National Malaria Indicator Survey (MIS) 2010 is the first MIS conducted in Malawi. The key objectives were to assess malaria prevalence in children under 5, anemia status in children 6-59 months, disparities in malaria intervention coverage, and parasite and anemia prevalence by location and other characteristics. The sample included 140 enumeration areas with 96 rural areas and 44 urban areas. For the 2010 MIS, 2,891 women ages 15-49 were interviewed from 3,478 households. Additionally, biomarker data were collected for 2,523 children under 5.
