Summary

The Nutrition Assessment 2004 of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea measured the prevalence of malnutrition in children and their mothers. The assessment surveyed 4,800 children and 2,109 mothers from seven provinces and one city in North Korea. It did not include residents in the Chagang and Kangwon provinces. Surveyors measured the height and weight of children and the weight and mid-upper arm circumferences (MUAC) of mothers. A subsample of the mothers (59%) agreed to a blood test for anemia.
