Summary

This update to the NHIS medicines list was done by the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) and key stakeholders. The revision went into effect in March, 2011, and major additions include Arthemeter injections for severe malaria treatment, zinc tablets for treatment of diarrhea, and Sulfadoxine plus Pyrimethamnie tablets for malaria prophylaxis for pregnant women. These changes were in large part implemented to assist in the successful achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

The list is readily available on the NHIA website.
