Summary

The Fertility and Family Surveys (FFS) were conducted in 23 United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) region countries from 1989 to 1999. The template survey includes 10 core and four optional modules. Topics included household characteristics, partnerships, fertility, and use of contraception. Each country developed a unique questionnaire derived from the standardized template. Sampling and data collection varied across the participating countries. In Finland, female interviews were conducted in 1989 and male interviews were completed in 1992. The total sample size was 5,105 females and 2,040 males between the age of 22 and 51 years.
