Summary

These guidelines provide information on the historical epidemiology of meningitis (including data on epidemics and case numbers for select regions), risk factors for epidemics, and variations of the disease. Chapter two covers diagnosing, treating, and preventing the disease, while chapters three and four discuss how to detect an epidemic and respond to it. Chapter five is on interepidemic prophylaxis such as routine vaccination. The annexes contain detailed information on testing, vaccines, and supplies for field investigations and vaccinations, among other practical information on meningitis control.
