Summary

The National Quality of Life Survey was implemented in Colombia to determine poverty levels, understand living conditions in urban and rural parts of the country, and assist with economic planning. Modules in the 1997 survey included housing, household demographics, health care use, child care, eduction, job training, employment, living conditions, household expenditures, agricultural activities, and family businesses. Community questionnaires were also administered in urban and rural areas.

The sample size was 10,016 households. The survey was designed to provide results for all eight regions. Depending on the region, the data were further disaggregated by municipal cities and the rest of the country or only by municipal cities. Dispersed rural areas of the Orinoco and Amazon were excluded from the survey.
