Summary 

The Rapid Assessment of Avoidable Blindness (RAAB) is a rapid survey methodology developed at the International Centre for Eye Health (ICEH). It is a population based survey of visual impairment and eye care services among people aged 50 years and over.

The China - Jianchuan Rapid Assessment of Avoidable Blindness 2012 covered Jianchuan county in Yunnan province, and data were collected through household interviews and visual examinations. Subjects with vision-impairing cataract were questioned on barriers keeping them from pursuing cataract surgery, and subjects that had undergone cataract surgery were asked about their operations. Of the targeted sample size, 2,008 subjects were interviewed and examined successfully.
