Summary 

The Canadian Health Measures Survey (CHMS) is a multi-wave survey of Canadians' health status, consisting of both household questionnaire and clinical examination components. The household questionnaires collect information on nutrition, tobacco, and alcohol use, health status, physical activity, and demographic and socioeconomic variables. Physical exams in regional mobile examination centers collected measurements of blood pressure, height, weight, physical fitness, and samples of blood, urine, and DNA.

In 2009-2011, a sample of 7,830 participants aged 3-79 were interviewed with the household questionnaire, and clinical exams were conducted with 6,395 participants. Data were collected in Newfoundland and Laborador, Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, and British Columbia. The second cycle added a measurement of indoor air quality, expanded the age range of the sample, and removed the oral health component.
