Summary

The Bhutan National Nutrition, Infant and Young Child Feeding Survey 2008 assessed the nutritional status of children ages 6 to 59 months for year 2008. For the study, a total of 2,374 mothers ages 16-55 were interviewed on topics covering household information, antenatal attendance and institutional delivery, and health, hygiene and access to safe drinking water. Anthropometric measures were taken from an equal number of children following WHO standardized procedures. All definitions for underweight, stunting, overweight and wasting were based on WHO Child Growth Standards. The sample covered all 20 districts in the country and was developed to give national and regional prevalence estimates.

As part of the survey, a questionnaire was mailed to all health district officers to collect data about birth weight from the previous two years (2006-2007). There was no sample size for this underlying survey. However, 5,981 birth weights were reported by the officers.
