Summary

Censuses provide population numbers, household or family size and composition, and information on sex and age distribution. They often include other demographic, economic and health-related topics as well. The 1991 Austrian de jure census collected data on household demographics, housing conditions, education, employment for individuals 15 and older, migration, household expenditures on housing and utilities, and the number of live births per each woman 16 years and older. The questionnaire was comprised of a Persons section, a Housing Unit section for residents, a Buildings section for owners of real estate, and a Census List for private households. The census day was May 15, 1991. A 10% sample of private households and 10% sample of institutional households (902,568 individuals) is available through IPUMS International at the University of Minnesota. Refer to the IPUMS website for guidelines on citing database versions.
