Summary

The Fertility and Family Surveys (FFS) were conducted in 23 United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Region countries from 1989 to 1999. The template survey includes 10 core and 4 optional modules. Topics include household characteristics, partnerships, fertility, and use of contraception. Each country developed a unique questionnaire derived from the standardized template. Sampling and data collection varied across the participating countries. In Austria, 6,120 individuals between the age of 20 and 54 years were interviewed (4,581 women and 1,539 men) and sampling was representative for each of the 9 providences. Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) was used.
