American Samoa Population and Housing Census 2000

The 2000 Population and Housing Census of American Samoa was conducted by the United States Census Bureau in partnership with the government of American Samoa as part of the Decennial Census. The process for conducting the census in the pacific island areas included the establishment of local census offices, the signing of memorandum of agreements outlining roles and responsibilities, developing questionaire content to meet legislative and programmatic needs of each territory, and the delivery of advance census reports to residential addresses for respondents to complete and hold for enumerator pickup. The census reference date was April 1, and the total population for American Samoa was 57,291.
