Summary
The 2006 Census of Population and Housing in New Zealand was conducted by Statistics New Zealand, via the collection of self-administer questionnaires by census enumerators. Questionnaire topics covered a variety of demographic and socioeconomic characteristics. New to the census in 2006, was the introduction of an internet response option, which resulted in 7 percent of all questionnaires being completed online. The total population of New Zealand in 2006 was enumerated at 4,143,279.
