Summary
The 2006 Census of Population and Housing in the Maldives was conducted by the Statistics Section of the Ministry of Planning and National Development, with technical assistance from the United Nations Population Fund. In person enumeration was used to collect data across all administrative islands of the country. The questionnaire covered a variety of demographic and socioeconomic characteristics, with a separate questionnaire for the capital city of Malé that included questions on household deaths and disability. The total population of Maldives in 2006 was recorded at 298,968.
