Summary
Censuses provide population numbers, household or family size and composition, and information on sex and age distribution. They often include other demographic, economic and health-related topics as well. The 1961 Jordan de facto census was the first population and housing census conducted in the country, though a census of housing units only was conducted in 1952. In addition to the population living in Jordan on November 18, 1961, military and diplomatic personnel and their families living abroad were also enumerated. Subjects covered by the census included household demographics, housing, migration, fertility, employment, and education. Data on the population of the Palestinian refugee camps was not released.
