General Info
The numbers presented outline deaths in the Dominican Republic during 2009 by transportation/road accidents (including occupational accidents), suicides, homicides, "femicide" or violence against women, drowning and electrocution. Information for all incidents includes province where deaths occurred, month, and gender and 5 year age increments of victims. Transportation/road accidents also includes day of the week and two hour increments of occurences, urban or rural environments, and types of roads. Suicide, homicide and femicide information includes manner or means used to commit the act (weapon, poison, etc), the location (home, work, institution, etc), employers of victims, and reasons (crimes of passion, personal economic problems, etc.) For electrocution deaths, information includes the object encountered which caused death (appliance, musical equipment, etc) and for drowning the type of water source (river, canal, etc) is documented.
