United States Community Survey 2005 - IPUMS
General Info
The ACS supplements the 10 year cycle of census data collection by continuously surveying a sample of approximately 250,000 addresses per month, located in geographic areas of 65,000 people or more. This method replaced the long form questionnaire for the 2010 census. The resulting data provides timely, demographic information at the community level. One, three, and five year population estimates are produced from the ACS data. For the 2005 survey approximately 1% of households completed a questionnaire. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews and self-enumeration on subjects of housing, household demographics, education, migration, disability, employment, and income. The 1% differentially weighted sample of households (2,878,380 individuals) is available through IPUMS International at the University of Minnesota. The IPUMS sample for this survey is notable because all variables have been harmonized with census data from other countries, allowing the data to be used together.
