Summary
The Kenya Standardized Monitoring and Assessment in Relief and Transition (SMART) surveys were conducted to assess malnutrition prevalence in children ages 6-59 months. Data were collected on mortality, anthropometry, vitamin A supplements, maternal health care, and food consumption.
For the 2011 survey in Makueni county, household interviews were conducted in March and April of that year in three of the county's nine districts using a two-stage cluster sampling method. A sample size of 598 households and 564 children were determined for the anthropometric survey, and 456 households were determined for the retrospective mortality survey.
