Ghana Population and Housing Census 2010
General Info
Censuses provide population numbers, household or family size and composition, and information on sex and age distribution. They often include other demographic, economic and health-related topics as well. The Ghana 2010 Population and Housing Census was the fifth national census in the country since independence. A trial census was carried out from October to Novemeber 2009, in six selected districts among six regions, the results of which propelled a redesign of the 2010 questionnaire. The process included estimating the number of persons per questionnaire, as well as placement of maternal mortality, one of the five new modules introduced in 2010. The others were disability, emigration, information technologies, and agriculture. Preparations also included the updating of the 2000 census enumeration area maps. A post enumeration survey of a 250 area sample was conducted by the Statistical Service in April 2011. The total population for Ghana in 2010 was enumerated at 24,658,823.
