Objective measures of health were obtained using the following: blood pressure, anthropometric measurements, and analysis of saliva and blood samples.
The general questionnaire included modules on general health, alcohol consumption, smoking, fruit and vegetable consumption, cardiovascular disease, chronic pain, and dental health. The HSE 2011 included a new module for older adults about provision of informal care and questions for all adults about social care.
A total of 8,610 adults and 2,007 children were successfully interviewed, and nurse visits were conducted among 5,715 adults and 1,257 children.
