Summary
The China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) collects comprehensive data on the elderly, their spouses, and their households. The study utilizes a multistage, stratified, random sampling method, and it uses household, individual and community questionnaires. With consent from participants, surveyors collected physical measurements of height, weight, waist circumference, leg and arm length, grip strength, pulse and lung capacity. The 2013 Wave 2 survey returned to the participants of the baseline survey from 2011-2012 and also includes a cross-sectional sample of new participants.
