Summary
The 2001 Malawi HIV and Syphilis Sero-Survey was designed to provide data for monitoring HIV and syphilis prevalence and trends in pregnant women attending antenatal clinics in Malawi as well as produce national estimates on HIV and syphilis impact. The survey tested 7,361 pregnant women attending antenatal clinic care (ANC) for the first time from 19 sentinel sites. Women attending ANC for a subsequent visit during the survey enrollment period were excluded.
