The Sudan Maternal and Child Health Survey, which was conducted as part of the PAPCHILD project, was a nationally representative survey covering 5,320 households, 4,528 ever-married women, ages 15-49 and 4,585 children under 5. The survey included questionnaires for the household, women and children; it also included a community questionnaire covering health facilities, equipment, services, and personnel. Topics included fertility preferences and contraceptive use, causes of childhood death (through a "verbal autopsy" component - questions on symptoms before death), breastfeeding and other food given to children, childhood illness and accidents, immunization, and demographic characteristics.

The 1995 published report may be available through the library system. An article summarizing the results, published in 1995 in Studies in Family Planning, is available online through JSTOR.
