South Africa KwaZulu-Natal Income Dynamics Study 1998
General Info
This is the second wave of the panel survey known as KIDS. The 1998 survey revisited households in the KwaZulu-Natal province that had participated in the national Project for Statistics on Living Standards and Development (PSLSD), a Living Standards Measurement Study (LSMS). Although the 1993 survey was representative of all ethnicities, the 1998 and 2004 surveys excluded white and colored households due to the small population of these groups in KwaZulu-Natal. In 1998, 1393 African and Indian households were surveyed. The 1998 household questionnaire is similar to the 1993 questionnaire except for additional modules on economic shocks, social capital, marriage assets, and household decisionmaking. A third wave of the survey was conducted in 2004.
