Summary
This 1996 household expenditure survey was conducted in the capital city of Dakar. It covered basic demographic information, water, sanitation, cooking fuels, and household expenses. It was one of seven surveys of its kind conducted in the following countries at the same time: Benin, Côte d'Ivoire, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Togo and Burkina Faso.
The survey does not cover households in the city where the head of household worked in an international organization or a diplomatic capacity. A total of 1,008 households were included in the sample.
