It assessed prevalence of fever among children under 5, type and timing of any received treatment, household ownership  and use of insecticide treated nets by the general population and children under 5, as well as communal knowledge about the role of community health agents. A general population questionnaire and women's questionnaire were used to collect data. The survey focused primarily on immunization coverage and services, maternal care, and availability of child and maternal health services. Focus group discussions were also held to gather qualitative data from mothers with children aged 6-18 months, males with children under 2, grandmothers of children under 2, service providers, and opinion leaders.</p> <p>The CES was designed to have 24 reporting units based on urban and rural areas rather than stricly by state divisions. The sample size for the 2013 survey was 3,060 households. </p> <p>The households were split into three samples of 1,020. These groups rotated through the survey during a four month period. Each household kept a diary to record expenditures, income, and goods and supplies on hand. Households also noted irregular spending and irregular income during the last two months and activities of the household members. However, the regions of Kosovo and Metohija were excluded from data collection. The survey collected data through interviews, anthropometric measurements, and blood exams for children age 7-14 and adults 15 and older. A household, a face-to-face, and a self-administered questionnaire were utilized to collect data on socioeconomic health determinants, lifestyle, health status, and utilization of health care. The Eurostat Health Survey- National Representative Probability Sample was used to select the survey sample. The Eurostat Health Interview Survey methodology was followed to facilitate the comparison of results with those of other countries in the region.
